Forklift Course

AIMS OF THE COURSE:

The programme is designed to provide trainees with the skills, knowledge and confidence to operate a Forklift safely, and to reduce injury and accidents to personnel and property. Participants will be required to successfully complete both a written (oral) and practical assessment to the National Competency Standards.

Competency standards are nationally developed benchmarks for effective performance in the workplace. They are statements which describe the skills and knowledge that people need in order to work to required industry standards.

DURATION:
One (1) Day / Two (2) Days

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCY:

  1. Plan and prepare work
  2. Conduct pre-operational checks
  3. Operate forklift
  4. Attach, secure, lift, carry and place materials
  5. Carry out operator maintenance
  6. Select, remove and fit attachments
  7. Clean up

COURSE OUTLINE

From this course participants will have knowledge of :

  • Operator's responsibility
  • Legislation
  • Engineering principles of a forklift
  • Stability
  • Rules for safe operation
  • Accident prevention
  • Safe systems of work

and will be able to:

  • Identify danger areas
  • Conduct pre-start checks
  • Conduct pre-operational checks
  • Know forklift capacity
  • Operate forklift safely
  • Picking of loads
  • Travelling with and without loads
  • Unloading
  • Stacking and detecting
  • Park correctly
  • Travel (speed)
  • Up and down inclines

ASSESSMENT

Participants will be required to successfully complete both a written and practical examination prior to the end of the course in order for them to gain certification.

Competency is to be demonstrated by the safe and efficient operation of a forklift to workplace specifications and industry productivity levels on a range of tasks.
